Education
The education system in Dubai is the same as that of the United Arab Emirates. The Ministry of Education is in charge of the educational system of Dubai. There are a lot of public schools and private schools in Dubai whose mode of communication is Arabic with English as the secondary language. In most private schools, English is the primary mode of communication. Both boys and girls get the same education from their primary years all the way to college with the government providing free education to its citizens through the public schools.

Before the discovery of oil in the region, the education system in Dubai was not developed. Only a few schools existed in Dubai and there was no proper system of education. The discovery of oil led to the increase in budget and awareness to the education system. The former president of the UAE during the discovery of oil ,His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, made it his mission to improve the education system of the country. The modernization of the education system of Dubai was fully realized when then ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum dedicated his life’s work to the betterment of education in the region.

The education system of Dubai is similar in standards to those of developed countries. It is divided into four phases which comprise of the following; kindergarten for ages 4-5, preparatory for ages 6-1, preparatory for ages 12-14, and secondary for ages 15-17.

Today, there are a lot of schools in Dubai with at least one primary school in each village and several secondary schools in the city. The aim of the Ministry of Education right now is to introduce the latest Information Technology tools to the classrooms. It aims to provide computers to school children in the kindergarten years.

Many higher education institutions also exist in Dubai for those who want to further pursue their careers. Most of the courses offered in these schools are in the Information Technology side and have tie ups with famous foreign institutions.
