 Food
Arabic cuisine is the characteristic of food in Dubai. Since Dubai has now become a melting pot of different nationalities, it is difficult to pinpoint a particular traditional Dubai cuisine. Its Arabic cuisine is influenced mostly by its neighbors in the Middle East like Lebanon and Iran. If you are wondering why there is no particular Dubai cuisine, it is because Dubai is now a very modern and multicultural place. You would find a lot of Indian, Filipino or Pakistani restaurants in this city. Before it became the great city that it is today, Bedouins inhabited this area and their meal consisted of camel meat, camel milk and dates. |
One of the famous Arabic meals in Dubai is the shawarma. It is made up of lamb or chicken and is slowly roasted mixed with tomatoes, garlic, sauce or any other ingredient which the restaurant may think of putting. Each restaurant has a different take on this excellent dish which is wrapped in a small Arabic roti and tastes like kebab.
If you haven’t tried falafel before then its time you try one out in Dubai. It is the Arabic version of the French fries. It is made up of mixed chickpeas and assorted spices which are cooked deep-fry style. This is usually served as a side dish in most restaurants.
In restaurants, the main courses are usually meat which are grilled, fish and rice. If you have a huge appetite try out the Ouzi which is a whole lamb being roasted then served on top of rice. After eating, desserts of Arabic nature which you may want to try out are the umm ali which is a rice bread pudding or an esh asariya which is thev local cheesecake.
Aside from the traditional Arabic food being served in restaurants, there are also a lot of foreign restaurants and fast food chains in Dubai. There are Filipino, Indian, French, and Japanese restaurants in the city just to name a few. |
