In 1985, Jafza was officially founded providing ready built amenities to clients with the construction of office units and warehouses. As a respond to the growing needs and requirements of the customers, in 1990 following its founding which was above-mentioned., Jafza expanded into constructing factory units. In making Jafza the ideal industrial, warehousing and distribution base in the Middle East, the Dubai Government did not spared any expense. |
Jebel Ali Free Zone is known to be the core of international business in the Middle East and a powerful symbol widely recognized that helps in the development of Dubai. It is also one of the biggest and fastest growing free zones in the world. To attract businesses that would certainly make a contribution to the growth of the economy of Dubai, their mission is to provide a favorable infrastructure for the distribution and manufacturing which is supported by excellent services, unrivalled incentives and down to business marketing.
Jafz is now currently a 135 sq. km commercial and industrial hub from a 850,000 square meters few years back and about 5,500 companies from over 120 countries in the world that is more or less 30-40 percent has been leased. Setting up to sell to other countries goods from Dubai to other market are the targets of most companies especially Iran and Dubai of which being the largest.
Availing in Jafz with the largest area covered is the Japan’s Sony Corporation operating a more or less 23,000 square meter warehouse. Other famous companies that has taken advantage of the Jafz includes the electronic companies such as Daewoo electronics, and IBM as well as other companies such as Black and Decker, General Motors, Grundig, H.J Heinz, Hyundia McDermott, Mistui, Samsung and York international and many others. Although Jfza is availed by many famous companies, majority of the Jafz businesses used less than 30-35 square meter of office space by those smaller traders whose names are not well-known.
Foreigners who want to go into business can own at least 51% of the business and its profits with the local United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) firms and sponsors with their commercial law outside the Jfza. The advantage inside and that is Jfza with regards to this rule is that the foreigner inside Jfza does not need to abide by these rules. These foreign companies are open to manufacture, do business and form joint endeavor for as long as they please. All they need to do for them to register is to fill out a two-page questionnaire and fax them to the authorities of Dubai. In less than 2 mos, Jfaz can now deliver the office keys to new occupants after they have already processed and notarized a handful of forms which also includes the applicant’s articles of incorporation. |
